2023 Chinese New Year Fireworks Display in Ghana

On the evening of January 20, Ambassador Lu Kun was invited to attend the 2023 New Year Fireworks Gala held by the overseas Chinese community in Ghana and delivered a New Year speech. The gala was held at the Parliament Square in Ghana, attended by more than 2,000 people including overseas Chinese in Ghana and personnel from Chinese-funded enterprises. The guests also included Hammond, the Ghanaian ambassador to China, and local friendly people.


Ambassador Lu extended Chinese New Year greetings and best wishes to the guests present at the meeting, and said that in the past year, the Chinese people have forged ahead and made great efforts to embark on a new journey and write a new chapter. The Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core unites and leads the entire Party and the people of all ethnic groups in the country to unite and work hard to promote new and great achievements in the cause of the Party and the country. The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was successfully held, and a new central leadership group with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core was elected. It comprehensively outlined the goal of building a socialist modern country in an all-round way and promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese-style modernization. The grand blueprint has sounded the horn of the times for a new journey. In 2022, the motherland will continue to maintain its status as the world's second largest economy, and the economy will develop steadily. The annual GDP will reach 18 trillion US dollars. The fundamentals of China's long-term economic growth remain unchanged. The Beijing Winter Olympics and the Winter Paralympics were successfully held. Shenzhou 13, 14, and 15 took off in relay, the space station was fully completed, and China's "space home" traveled to the sky. The achievement of the above achievements is not easy and deserves to be cherished.


Ambassador Lu said that in the past year, all the colleagues of the embassy in Ghana and the overseas Chinese compatriots have worked together through thick and thin, overcome difficulties, faced challenges and made progress hand in hand. Unremittingly implement the people-centered development idea, implement the decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, conscientiously implement domestic optimization and adjustment of epidemic prevention and control policies, make unremitting efforts to promote China-Canada personnel exchanges and practical cooperation in various fields, and actively serve overseas Chinese in Ghana needs to create a favorable external environment for its survival and development.


Ambassador Lu emphasized that 2023 is the first year to fully implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and it is also an important year to start building a modern socialist country in an all-round way. I hope that everyone will work together to do a good job in all tasks and work together to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Ambassador Lu said that the motherland will always be the strong backing of overseas Chinese, and the embassy will always be a warm home for overseas Chinese.

Tang Hong, president of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the event organizer and the overseas Chinese community in Ghana and said that in the new year, he will continue to unite and lead the overseas Chinese associations to contribute to the development of China-Ghana friendship; Minister Yang Qun spoke on behalf of Chinese-funded enterprises and introduced the situation of Chinese-funded enterprises in Ghana and helping Ghana's economic and social development; Ghanaian Ambassador to China Hammond emphasized in his speech the important historical and practical significance of developing China-Ghana friendly relations, We especially appreciate the positive role played by overseas Chinese and Chinese-funded enterprises in promoting Canada-China friendship. Ambassador Hammond wished the overseas Chinese in Canada a happy and auspicious Chinese New Year.


This fireworks show is the first large-scale celebration held by the overseas Chinese community since the epidemic lasted for 3 years. There were many participants and the program was brilliant. The lion dance and other programs performed by the teachers and students of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana were full of Chinese cultural elements, which amazed the foreign guests.
